Chandrashekhar D. Borkar Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Department of Biology
Chandrashekhar received his Ph.D. in 2019 from RTM Nagpur University, India. For his PhD thesis, Dr. Borkar studied the role of CART peptide in the neurobiological process of learning and memory with Dr. Kokare, which was supported by DBT, RTMNU and CSIR fellowships. During his postdoctoral research with Dr. Jonathan Fadok at Tulane University, he worked to understand neurobiological mechanisms of flight and escape responses in mice. Dr. Borkar worked at the Miami University, Oxford, Ohio (USA) as an assistant professor between August 2025 to May 2026. He started his lab to IISER Pune, in June 2026, focused on studying the neural mechanisms of escalated defensive responses, especially, aggression/fight following traumatic events.
